  • What do Coaches Committee Members Do?

Committee members work together to take on leadership responsibilities within programs, run KEEN sessions, develop new programs, recruit new volunteers, plan special events, and manage other matters consistent with KEEN’s mission and the Board’s direction.

  • Coaches Committee Expectations:

    • Commit to regularly volunteering with KEEN New York for a full season, generally attending at least 2 sessions per month
    • Attend 2 different KEEN programs per month, or commit to leading/adopting a program in need of a dedicated Coach.
    • Be willing to learn and help lead Volunteer Orientation and Pairing processes, while helping foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for athletes, volunteers, and families. The safety language here is a light paraphrase to match your needs.
    • Demonstrate leadership, strong communication, flexibility, creativity, patience, and compassion, and engage positively with athletes of differing abilities, ages, and interests.
    • Be comfortable speaking in front of groups and, when possible, participating in community-building activities such as Coach Quarterly Meetings, Happy Hours, and Holiday Parties.
  • What Coaches Committee Members can expect from KEEN staff:

    • At minimum, monthly communications with updates specifically related to the Coaches Committee and at maximum, twice weekly emails from KEEN.
    • Openness to your ideas that enhance KEEN’s mission to the Board and/or KEEN staff members, including any potential partnership opportunities you may be aware of related to program expansion, sponsorship, fundraising, etc.
    • Flexibility and understanding of your schedule. While we want our Coaches Committee volunteers to be committed and attend our program on a regular basis, we understand that you are doing this as a volunteer. Please communicate your schedule clearly with the KEEN staff, if there is a period in your life where you are not able to commit as much time to the program, or if you need to take a break from the committee.
    • Virtual or in-person meetings to connect as a team approximately every month based on program needs. Team meetings are optional but we encourage you to attend if possible!
